Avoidance of Cost vs. Cost of Avoidance

Since I’ve been struggling with an unstable computer lately, I keep revisiting the question of whether or not to move on to the next device. I hesitate to spend unnecessary money, so I am reluctant to commit to a purchase. Still, each day I spend an inordinate amount of time wrestling with a laptop that is tied in knots.

Yesterday I let myself browse the electronics store online to see what my options might be. I even made the decision about what to buy, but I did not push my cart all the way to checkout. I was still thinking maybe it was not really, really necessary.

This morning I needed to download a Word document from my email and write it to my computer in order to edit it. Completion of this elementary task required more than an hour. Clearly, this cannot continue. The time required is one thing; the toll on my nerves is another. This is a tool I use daily, and a daily frustration I can surely do without.

Time to head for the checkout.
